I'm not good at speeches, but as your team leader I know when it's appropriate.
Failure is not the result of an internal weakness. We didn't finish last yesterday because of individual faults. To be blunt, it doesn't matter if you are slow or unobservant, unathletic or clumsy. Nobody is perfect.
Failure is the result of being blocked by external forces-- opponents. Enemies. It is not our fault Team 8 came in last. We have done as much as possible to prepare ourselves for obstacles, but there is still the external "flaw" we have to understand and master. Nobody is a perfect judge of their own incapabilities. But they are good at judging the capabilities of others.
That's why I don't need to hear any apologies from anyone on this team. I give you credit to have done your best. Plus I don't care if you feel sorry. I'm telling you to reflect on what you have seen today. Not your failure, but your experience. Remember your opponents. Remember how they moved. When they started sweating. The distance at which they started to stumble. What they said aloud. Their expression when they were struggling. Put aside your weaknesses and remember your opponent's. Know them better than you know yourself.
So when the time comes, you are prepared to take them down.
If that day comes and you aren't prepared, that is when you have failed. But not today.
